The launch was timed to coincide with National Independents’ Day on June 1, a programme of events organised by the Federation of Wholesale Distributors to support independent retailers.
The 1,000 sq ft outlet is opening close to a Sainsbury’s Local in Glasgow’s West End and is owned by Jack Singh and Amer Younis.
Ian McDonald, JW Filshill’s sales director, said the store launch was a statement of defiance to the major grocery chains. “The small independent store is vital to the community and economy.
“Jack and Amer are proof that independents have nothing to fear from the big boys. It is fitting that they run our 100th KeyStore in Scotland and very fitting that we officially launched the store on National Independents’ Day.”
Key Lekkerland said four more stores would take on the KeyStore fascia in England in the next fortnight, taking its total to 250.
In Scotland, a further five are taking on the fascia in the next few days, followed by five more in the next two weeks.
