A British entrepreneur is in discussion with retailers to list a battery-powered gadget that saws open tough, plastic packaging.

The Zipit (rsp: below £10) has been designed to safely cut through the clamshell plastic packaging, usually found on electronic products.

Humphrey Lee, director of Gates Green Imports, has the UK distribution licence for the gadget launched in the US last year and expected retailers to list Zipit in time for Christmas. "People use all manner of sharp knives to open clamshell packaging, which can cause horrific injuries," said Lee.
