Sir; There has been a lot of nonsense written about the industry's attempts to "profiteer" during the foot and mouth crisis. But one important issue has been largely ignored. And it's this: while manufacturers and retailers are quick to say they will have to put up prices within a matter of days because of higher input costs, I have heard nothing about how quickly they plan to reduce prices once their costs stabilise. One can only assume the price cuts will also happen within a matter of days. May I humbly suggest it does happen this quickly. Even if retailers take a margin hit, they will not be hit by yet more bad publicity in the media. H Harrison By email {{LETTERS }}
