Sir; re ‘Recruitment beset by ageist attitudes’, The Grocer, February 28, p27.
Just to let you know that I have had the same problem for the last 14 months.
I have been out of work for so long now that I have taken a job as a bus driver!
Not bad for a chartered marketer with 20 years of experience in manufacturing sales exports and two years working in management consultancy. Older people who are out of work will find that if they try for the lower paid jobs they will be rejected because employers say that if they give them a job they will still go on looking for the higher paid opportunities and eventually leave anyway.
Then there are the employers who will want to employ you until they extract all your contacts and then replace you with a younger, cheaper model.
