Dutch retailer Ahold has announced that it will start looking at takeovers again in 2006, as it continues to recover from last years accounting scandal.

Although Ahold has no concrete plans as yet, chief financial officer Hannu Ryopponen said: “At around that time we will be able to write a check for two to three billion euros. I would rather not invest a lot, but would be prepared to do so for a good acquisition.

Ryopponen said that the priority for this year and next would remain recovery.
