Ahold is to sell its Brazilian retail chain G Barbarosa Comercial to an affiliate of US-based investment firm Acon Investments. The chain has 32 hypermarkets and supermarkets, predominantly in the north east of Brazil.

The sale is part of Ahold’s strategy to reduce debt.

Ahold has also said it will appeal a December 23 court order that could halt the sale of its Argentinian Disco supermarket chain to Chile’s Censosud SA. The court order was lodged on the basis that the two chains had infringed antitrust laws by partially completing the transaction prior to regulatory approval.
