Ahold, the Dutch supermarket retailer, has announced net sales for its fourth quarter amounted to E12.3bn, which is a decline of 3.1% compared to the same period in 2003.

The company said its fourth quarter sales for the 13 weeks to January 2, were impacted by lower currency exchange rates and divestments.

Sales for the full year amounted to E52bn, which is a decline of 7.3% compared to 2003.
