Dutch retailer Ahold has reported flat second-quarter sales of E10.5bn.

In a trading update, the retailer said that in central Europe its sales had increased 2.7% to E423m during the period. However, in the US, sales at its Giant-Carlisle/Tops stores fell 3.9% to $1.4bn.

“Market conditions remain competitive and, particularly in the US, energy costs continued to impact consumer behaviour,” Ahold added.
