Ahold has announced a decline in net sales of 4.8% for its second quarter compared to the same period last year.

The Dutch retail group said its net sales figures of E12.3bn were significantly impacted by lower currency exchange rates and divestments, and its net sales growth for the second quarter excluding these two areas was about 3.1%.

Net sales for the first half year 2004 amounted to E27.7bn, which is a decline of 8.5% compared to the same period last year.

In Europe net sales for the second quarter amounted to E3.1bn, equal to that for the same period last year.
