Dutch-based Ahold has sold seven of its shopping centre sites each of which house a supermarket under its Giant fascia to the private grocery company Edens & Avant Stateside.

No financial details were disclosed but the deal will go to reduce debt in the wake of Ahold’s accounting irregularities at its US Foodservice unit in February. The Giant stores were the first Ahold assets sold in the US since the accounting scandal began.

Meanwhile, in Buenos Aires, the International Finance Corporation is considering putting up 25% of the cash needed to buy the Ahold’s Argentine supermarket unit, Disco.
