Dutch retailer Ahold has announced that it will axe 9% of the workforce at its foodservice operator DeliXL.

A spokesman from the group said that job cuts would only take place in the Netherlands, although the group is also active in Belgium. He said DeliXL had a total of 2,200 staff.

Meanwhile, chief executive of Ahold’s Bompreco supermarket chain in Brazil is stepping down from September 1, after only six months in the position. Roberto Britto will be replaced by vice president of planning and strategy, Ronald van Solt.

Later in September Ahold is expected to open offers for Bompreco from retailers such as Carrefour in France and US giant Wal-Mart.

Bompreco operates 87 supermarkets and 28 hypermarkets.
