Dutch retailer Ahold is selling its US foodservice business as part of a strategic review of its operations.

It is also planning to divest its Tops retail chain and operations in Poland and Slovakia, and cut operating costs by E500m by the end of 2009.

Anders Moberg, president and CEO of Ahold, said: “It is now time for us to focus our efforts on strengthening our retail competitive position, particularly in the US. We will apply our customer insight much more actively to improve our product, service and price offering in order to increase customer loyalty.”
