Sir; It was with deep regret that the sudden death of Alan Jones, aged 51, was recorded last week. Alan was a longstanding member of Cegin Cymru, the Bedwas based distributor of quality Welsh speciality foods. Alan was a sales and marketing executive with Cegin Cymru and was always enthusiastic about the need to highlight the quality of Welsh produce. He worked closely with individual food producers to ensure his knowledge and understanding of the vast range of speciality foods prior to identifying potential new markets. He also worked closely with potential new customers, informing them of the product, its availability and its unique qualities. Given the speciality of the products involved this was a difficult balance to achieve but Alan always made a great effort to work with everyone. Last year Cegin Cymru was successful with a tender submission to represent the Welsh Cheese Association, CAWS, at a range of food events. But his work took him to numerous local, regional, national and international events. Many will have fond memories of Alan preparing the display at food events, such as the BBC Good Food Show and the trade show at Alimentaria in Barcelona. Participation in these events was aimed specifically at raising the profile of quality Welsh speciality foods. He will be sadly missed and I'm sure all those who knew him will join with me to extend condolences to his wife, son and family. Lynne Walters MD, Cegin Cymru {{LETTERS }}
