Amazon's head of US grocery Bram Duchovnay has been drafted in to head up the online grocery business in the UK.

Duchovnay has swapped Seattle for Slough in a move signalling Amazon's commitment to the UK grocery market, which it only entered last July.

The UK business has primarily focused on hard-to-find brands and bulk buy everyday items sold direct by suppliers rather than via Amazon. Although it has also launched a 'subscribe & save service' for bulk buy items, it still lags some way behind its US counterpart, which has sold groceries since 2006.
