Ardbeg Distillery claims to have turned conventional whisky wisdom on its head with the launch of a special unpeated expression under the Ardbeg Kildalton banner.
The new product follows an experiment dating back to 1980 when the distillery produced small batches of unpeated and lightly peated malted barley to produce “limited quantities” of whisky. Only 1,300 bottles of the new expression, sold direct by the distillery, will be available.
Distillery manager Stuart Thomson said: “By removing the peat, the fruity flavours produced by the purifier come to the fore.”
