It’s a fairly quiet day for food and drink news in the papers, aside from the stories already on thegrocer.co.uk.

The Financial Times notes that Diageo has sold a stake to a major Chinese investor.

The paper also reports on pleas by the BRC for the government to freeze business rates as one in eight high street shops now lie empty. The Independent also takes a look at the issue of Britain’s “blighted” high streets.

One familiar name is benefiting from the deserted streets, however – Domino’s Pizza is reportedly cleaning up as folks stay home in swine-flu terror. The Guardian, The Times and the Daily Mail all take a look, although the Mail prefers to concentrate on its sponsorship deal with some TV talent show or other.

And the Daily Telegraph reports on farmers desperate to “make the most of the countryside” – not by picnicking or talking more bracing walks, but by getting extra funding to improve production efficiency.
