In a move to strengthen the red tractor, agreement has been reached to transfer the ownership and operation of farm assurance in the dairy sector to Assured Food Standards from the National Dairy Farm Assured Scheme.
This aim is better co-ordination between the sector assurance schemes in marketing initiatives, harmonisation of standards and spreading of overheads.
Richard Davis, NDFAS chairman, said: "Our move demonstrates our commitment to the tractor as the best means for promoting and securing markets for assured milk and dairy products, while also offering efficiencies. Assurance schemes working together offer the best avenue for ensuring that the industry obtains the greatest benefit from its investment."
Peter Kendall, NFU president, said: "This allows real progress towards a single assurance scheme."
NDFAS will be re-branded as Assured Dairy Farms in coming months.
