Defra is investigating whether the deadly avian flu virus H5N1 has spread to a second farm.

Earlier this week, four premises close to the original outbreak at a farm on the Norfolk/Suffolk border were identified by Defra as 'dangerous contacts' and as many as 22,000 birds are currently in the process of being culled.

However, Defra said it had reclassified the cull at one of these farms to “a slaughter on suspicion of avian influenza”.

Defra is still trying to investigate the source of the latest outbreak and is currently surveying poultry farms and wild birds in Norfolk and Suffolk.
