Yorkshire based cash & carry chain Batleys has posted a dismal set of trading figures for the six months to October 28. High interest payments drove pretax profits down 51.6% to £1.45m on turnover edging up 4% to £270.7m. Operating profits slumped 25%. The company refused to comment on the results, but a bad set of full year figures in June was blamed on bootlegging and a fiercely competitive market. Batleys has 18 depots across Scotland, northern England and Wales and a couple of sites in southern England. {{NEWS }}
