The Association of News Retailing has attacked publishers for failing to take into account c-stores when they barcode publications.
Publishers, wholesalers and retailers involved in the Joint Industry Group created the National Title File to enable the industry to trace publications by barcode.
The ANR the Association of Convenience Stores' news arm said the system was useful but caused confusion when magazines were relaunched with the same barcode. ANR managing director John Lennon cited Sabrina's Secrets magazine as the latest example. He said: "This will cause problems for retailers who use EPoS systems, because they will be unable to identify which collection or re-launch customers require."
ANR member Steve McCann, of Bells Stores, warned retailers could refuse to handle the product.
