Consumers are being encouraged to fire up their barbecues with the launch of a promotional drive behind National BBQ Week.
The annual event, from May 30 to June 5, kickstarts a series of events to inspire al fresco cooking this summer, including a National BBQ Bus Roadshow which will visit supermarkets around the country, giving out samples and tips.
The National BBQ Association is also on the lookout for Britain’s Best Barbecuer, running regional heats at Asda stores where contestants have to prepare two barbecue dishes for judging by local celebrities.
National BBQ Association president Brian George, said people were becoming more adventurous. “There’s been a market evolution and a shift from sausage to swordfish and burger to brochette.”
Waitrose is among retailers launching barbecue ranges, including Hot & Spicy Chicken Wings (rsp: £1.99), and Chinese Style Pork Loin Ribs (rsp: £2.99).
