A study by the CBI has revealed large businesses are reporting greater difficulties than smaller ones in securing access to finance .

Large businesses, defined in the survey as those employing more than 10,000 staff, were more likely to have their credit limits reduced and struggle to find capital.

The findings suggest large businesses also need support securing finance, with 56% of the large businesses surveyed claiming they had experienced significant or modest deterioration in their access to capital, compared with a 49% average. Some 37% also said they expected existing lines of credit to be withdrawn over the next year.

"This confirms the need for action to ease cash flow and restore prospects for viable companies," said CBI director general Richard Lambert. "We need to keep business working to safeguard jobs ."
