Wholesaler AF Blakemore & Son has announced a series of business targets in 2005 following the launch of an annual Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
Aims of the review include investigating ways of improving fuel efficiency by 5%.
The company is also focusing on building its local sourcing strategy, pledging to introduce produce from at least 10 more local suppliers into its C&C depots. It also intends to double annual sales of its ethnic food range in its Fresh Foods wing, which are currently £360,000.
AF Blakemore claims it is the first UK wholesaler to introduce such a review, which will cover work in three of its six divisions: Blakemore Wholesale (Cash & Carry), Blakemore Food Service and Blakemore Fresh Foods.
Blakemore’s Spar arm is also working on the development of a CSR strategy.
Sam Wilcox, MD of Blakemore Wholesale, said: “We want to behave in a responsible manner which also delivers some business benefit.”
