Food giant Unilever has given a boost to the global profile of the Marine Stewardship Council’s eco-mark by rolling out labelled products across several Continental markets.
Unilever’s new MSC-labelled Alaska pollock products have been launched on the Continent under the Iglo brand. Unilever estimates that the move will take its sales of MSC-certified seafood from less than 5% to as high as 40% in some markets.
MSC chief executive Rupert Howes welcomed the news, adding: “Repeated surveys show consumers in several countries are ready to embrace the MSC eco-label.” At present, 292 MSC-labelled lines are available around the world.
