A regional supermarket chain considerably outperformed the big multiples in sales growth over the festive period. Booths, which operates 26 stores across the north of England, reported a sales increase of 15.6% for the seven weeks to January 5. According to the company, excluding its recently opened store at Settle, North Yorkshire, like for like sales grew 12.6% . Edwin Booth, chairman of the family run business which was founded in 1847 in Blackpool, said he was delighted with the news: "This significant growth is well aligned with our sales performance for the year to date." l See Retail Spotlight, page 44 {{NEWS }}
