Boots The Chemist has reported a 2.6% third-quarter rise in same-store sales at its UK stores and it stated its full-year profits are on target to meet market forecasts.

Total sales for the company increased by 4.2% to £1.45bn in the third quarter ended 31 December, compared to £1.39bn last year. Its international operations saw a sales increase of 3.7%.

“Boots The Chemists traded successfully during the quarter by focusing on giving customers good products, excellent value and better availability. We grew sales, maintained gross margins and built share in a highly competitive market,” said chief executive officer, Richard Baker.

Premium cosmetics and fragrance sales were particularly strong with an increase of 6.1% and 9% respectively but toiletry sales dropped by 0.8% compared to last year due to an investment in lower prices for customers.
