Brazil could begin commercial planting of GM crops this year if a judicial panel decides there are no grounds for the current ban on GMOs. If the ban is lifted, European retailers could find it even harder to meet their non-GM commitments on animal feed, given Brazil is a major source of GM-free soya. One of three federal judges voted to overturn an injunction against Monsanto's RoundUp Ready last month on the grounds it represented no threat to human health or the environment.
