The BRC is urging the organisations that award certification to its Global Standards to embrace new technology to protect the scheme against fraud.

It has called on certification bodies recognised by the BRC to adopt software from Adobe and Geo-Trust that makes it harder to falsify electronic certificates issued for compliance.

This is achieved by 'wrapping' the certificate in an encrypted code, known as a digital signature. This binds the certificate to the identity of the author and prevents it being altered. If the certificate is modified in any way after being certified, the recipient will be notified.
