Liverpool brewer Cains could have new owners within weeks following a decision by the Danish Brewery Group to put it up for sale. A spokeswoman for Cains said: "There are a handful of bidders and we hope to announce a sale within six weeks. "It is more than likely it will be sold as a going concern although it may not remain on this site." She added: "Own label accounts for 90% of the volume of the brewer and this sector has been declining in volume and the margins are getting tighter. "The brewery has a huge capacity and we are only using a small part of it. "The company will either have to have a lot of investment or it will have to downsize." Despite this uncertainty the brewer is still getting into party mood with a special celebration ale. It has produced a limited edition Golden Jubilee Ale (rsp: £2.49) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne and has won listings for it in the major multiples. {{DRINKS }}
