Britons are wasting food worth as much as £10bn a year, Wrap, the Waste & Resources Action Programme has revealed.

The government-backed organisation found the average family threw away £610 worth of food every year - enough to fill Wembley Stadium eight times - and as much as 60% of the food had never been touched.

Waste included 4.4 million apples, 1.6 million bananas, 1.3 million yoghurts, 660,000 eggs, 550 chickens, 300,000 packets of crisps and 440,000 ready meals, Wrap said.
