Sir; Fletchers Bakery in Sheffield (part of Northern Foods) has not "burnt down in the summer", as reported in your news article ('Mysterious lack of buyers for Northern Foods businesses', 11 November, p10).

On 16 July, a fire did indeed destroy part of the site, but due to the excellent efforts of the local fire service it was contained within one of the two main buildings. Post event, we had lost just five of our 14 manufacturing plants.

We were able to redeploy the bulk of the production from these units to other facilities within the Fletchers Group (in Manchester, Barnsley and London). Due to the fantastic support we received from our key retail and wholesale customers, plus other bakery suppliers who have worked hand in hand with us, our customers were back in receipt of our goods within a matter of just days in some instances, and a few weeks in others.
