Plans to build Britain's first large-scale regional food hall, in Buxton's Pavilion Gardens, are undergoing a feasibility study.

Due to be completed this month, it involves analysis of whether building the 26,000 sq ft food hall makes good commercial sense.

High Peak Borough Council, which commissioned the work, is also searching for an operator. The study comes after the original proposal by the East Midlands Development Agency was rejected by the council because the scheme did not do enough for the local community.

It was subsequently revised to include plans to accommodate community activities such as festivals.
