The Campaign for Real Ale has called on shareholders of Cumbrian-brewer Jennings Brothers to reject a takeover from Wolverhampton & Dudley.

Camra claims that the deal could result in the loss of a unique local brewer.

Te call comes despite assurances from W&D that retaining the Jennings brewery was key.

A formal offer for Jennings is expected tomorrow. Ralph Findlay chief executive at W&D said: “We have stated our intention to continue to operate the Jennings brewery and develop the brewing business regionally in the event of a recommended offer for Jennings Brothers”.
