Continuing good weather in the Mediterranean has led to this year's sweetcorn pack starting two weeks early  as has already happened with the pea pack. As a result, Italian packers will be in action by the end of the month. Demand for European product is high this year, partly because some of last year's orders from the US did not ship and partly because the pound is still strong for buying abroad. Opening prices are higher as a consequence, which, with the possibility of US orders being switched, will mean progressively firmer trading in the coming weeks. Late buyers know the risks of holding off in a rising market  but the UK and the Continent is not short of gambling addicts. {{PROVISIONS }}
