French supermarket group Carrefour plans to add approximately 1.4 million sq m of new space in 2005.

Releasing its half-year results for 2005, the retailer said that the extra space would be added through new store extensions and acquisitions.

Carrefour added that it has increased its share of the French market by 0.2% in the first half of 2005.

All of its formats gained food market share in France during the period, which is the first increase in share in France by the group as a whole since 2000.
