French supermarket group Carrefour has announced it will not meet full-year sales targets.

The group has warned that it will not reached the 6% full-year sales increase it had predicted and it has now lowered this target to 5%.

Overall sales for Carrefour rose 4.4% to E19.78bn in the second quarter but fell by 0.2% in its French market, which covers 50% of its total revenues.

The company has stated that its priority is to strengthen the price image of its hypermarkets in France so win back some market share.

Carrefour now has opened 195 new stores this year, which consist of 9 hypermarkets, 20 supermarkets, 126 hard discount stores and 40 in the convenience format.
