Most of the grocery industry believes that category management is here to stay, according to the latest research from IGD. Some 96% of respondents told the IGD it would be a core business strategy into the next decade, with 70% of retailers and 76% of suppliers satisfied or very satisfied. But many respondents believed staff needed to become more involved. There was also room for improvement in understanding customer needs, adapting to the new technologies and to the use on the web, they said. IGD chief executive Joanne Denney said: "The principles are very much established and the practice is widening to deliver the ultimate goal of category management  happy, satisfied and even, possibly, excited customers." {{NEWS }}
