Sir; So the majority of consumers (33%) preferred GDAs for food labels instead of the FSA's traffic lights according to your article last week based on Harris research.

The article implied that this research was a victory for the food industry over the Food Standards Agency.

However, what your article failed to spend any time discussing was the fact that actually the higher proportion of those asked (42%) preferred the use of both label formats.

At McCain Foods, we made the decision in September to use both label formats on all of our retail products. We did this after conducting extensive research among our consumers, the majority of whom said they wanted to see both formats on pack.

We believe that rather than arguing about whose side you are on in terms of either the industry or the Food Standards Agency, food manufacturers should base their labelling decisions purely on what genuinely works for their consumers. This is just what we did and we have received excellent feedback from our consumers.
