Jaffa labour threat looms With Israel's Jaffa citrus season only weeks away, the industry has already issued a warning that there could be a shortage of pickers due to the civil unrest. A lack of manpower cost the industry over £20m last year according to Mena Davidson, general manager of the Citrus Marketing Board of Israel. There are already plans in hand to find an alternative labour force to the 8,000 Palestinians, although there is expected to be a shortfall of around 50% unless permits are granted to employ other foreign workers. {{M/E FRESH PRODUCE }}
