Chief executive of the National Federation of Retail Newsagents Roger Clarke has left as part of a restructuring of senior members.
He will not be replaced because the NFRN's president Colin Finch, and the vice-president David Kirwin, will take a more hands-on management role in the day-to-day running of the federation.
Clarke said he wanted fresh challenges after six years as chief executive. "I feel I have already achieved most of what I set out to do when I took the post."
Finch paid tribute to the way Clarke had given the NFRN's members new direction.
"He helped make us more commercial and restructured our agenda to reflect the fact that few members could survive on news alone.
"We are on the web and helping to computerise our members.
"For the active member the benefits of membership now exceed the annual cost."
