The UK government and the US agricultural lobby are both on a collision course with Brussels over controversial proposals on GM labelling being debated by the Council of Ministers this month.
DEFRA secretary of state,Margaret Beckett, acting on advice from the Food Standards Agency, will argue that calls for manufacturers to label products derived from GM crops, regardless of whether GMOs are detectable in the final product, are unworkable and open to fraud.
