Heavy stocks of poultry Heavy stocks of poultry are probably still overhanging the UK meat market, DEFRA's latest estimates of coldstore tonnages apparently confirming traders' complaints of a price-crushing glut. As at April 27, public coldstores were thought to hold about 63,000t of poultry, about 25% more than a year earlier. Fish stocks were also still quite heavy in late April, at almost 49,000t against 44,000t a year earlier. The other notable increase was in prepared meat products, up from 7,700t to nearly 12,000t. Beef, lamb and pork stocks were slightly down year-on-year whereas the bacon tonnage grew slightly. {{MEAT }}
