Payment terminal supplier Alphyra failed to quell industry concerns over low commission rates after extending its PayZone service in Northern Ireland to include customers on the Phoenix Natural Gas Quantum pre-payment service.

Retailers receive a commission of 0.9% on all Quantum Gas transactions but commission is capped at 13p.

Alphyra said demand would be “substantial” with a potential extra 600,000 transactions per annum.

But Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association chief executive Bryan Gray said there continued to be considerable concern among retailers about the level of commission on transactions.
