United Wholesale Scotland MD Athif Sarwar has been sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted for money laundering.
The High Court in Glasgow heard Sarwar laundered £845,137 in cash through the cash and carry business accounts in a scam involving imported mobile phones in 2003.
Sarwar's father, Labour MP for Glasgow Central Mohammed Sarwar, protested his son's innocence and said he planned to appeal the verdict.
United Wholesale Scotland is number 24 on The Grocer Big 30 list of the UK's largest wholesalers. In 2006 it had a turnover of £100m with profits of £500,000.
