Neighbourhood retailers in the south east are being encouraged to use computers through a scheme funded by the Local Partnership Fund. Local Shops Online is run by a consortium of local Business Links and business organisations and is designed to help retailers survive supermarket competition. The initiative is being extended after the success of pilot projects in the Isle of Wight, mid-Surrey and the Isle of Sheppey. Retailers joining the scheme range from corner stores to non-food outlets. They get packs including advice for everyone from complete computer novices to the more experienced, a CD giving immediate internet access, help desk details and a newsletter. {{NEWS }}
