Age profile of canned vegetable consumers

In the last year there were 1.2 billion individual canned vegetable meal occasions


The consumption of canned vegetables has decreased by 9.5%, versus last year


Adults aged 45-64 account for over a quarter (26%) of all canned vegetable consumption


No consumers are showing any increased levels of consumption; males 65+ are showing the smallest decline (-4.9%)


Young adults are driving the overall decline in consumption with adult men 25-34 having decreased consumption by 20% and similar aged females decreasing their consumption of canned vegetables by 10%


The core occasion for the consumption of canned vegetables is the evening meal (58%). Consumption has decreased across the core occasions, particularly lunchtime, down 18%


The next most popular meal is teatime at 22%, an occasion largely focused around young kids and older adults


The most popular days for consumption are Monday to Wednesday, accounting for 46%


Over 20% of canned vegetables are cooked in the microwave
