Young adults find eggs a convenient meal solution
Adults aged 45+ are the core consumers of eggs (54%) and their consumption grows steadily year on year (3%).

However, even though young adults aged 17-24 only account for 8% of consumption, they show the largest growth of 12% because they are always on the go and are looking for a convenient stopgap.

A quarter of eggs are eaten at the evening meal. Although eggs are most likely to be fried in both the morning and the evening, at breakfast more eggs are boiled than at the evening meal, 33% vs 23%, suggesting boiled egg and soldiers are still a popular treat at breakfast.

At breakfast, eggs eaten with bacon, toast, sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms overindex. The weekend is when eggs are most likely to be consumed (37%).

Some 14% of eggs are eaten because they are convenient, being quick to cook. Further still, a quarter of all eggs feature in a meal that takes under 10 minutes to prepare.
