WHSmith has launched a hi-tech format to meet the needs of busy professionals in central London. The new c-store on The Strand stocks the retailer's core range, weighted towards key fast moving goods such as news and soft drinks, but without snacks or milk. The concept is geared towards speed, with honesty boxes' for newspapers, and an online kiosk for ordering non food items for delivery or collection. An indoor cash machine, and same day photo processing counter are also provided. The pilot store is the first of four openings planned in 2000. A second outlet is to open in central London and two more in provincial cities. WHSmith Retail managing director Beverley Hodson added: "Hi-tech information screens will help keep busy shoppers up to date with breaking world news, sports results and special offers." WHSmith research suggests that more than half of British people take less than 30 minutes for lunch. {{NEWS }}
