A Dorset dairy has won government funding for an anaerobic digestion project that will turn waste into power.

The demonstration project at BV Dairy will see the installation of the first large-scale digestor at a British dairy processor.

It has been partly funded by a grant from Defra's new Environmental Transformation Fund, which encourages the use of energy-efficient technology.

The digestor will be capable of generating 30,000 kWh of heat and 45,000 kWh of electricity per week from 1,000m3 of liquid effluent.
