A new voice for the dairy industry was created this week by the amalgamation of the Dairy Industry Federation and the National Dairymen's Association. The Dairy Industry Association Limited aims to represent dairy processors, manufacturers and distributors in England and Wales. Jim Begg ­ previously chief executive of the DIF ­ is director general of DIAL. He said: "The NDA and DIF wanted to create a single, broader-based organisation which would generate cost savings. DIAL's core activity will be political representation with government both in the UK and abroad and with other food industry organisations." Begg said DIAL would speak out about moves to reform the CAP and UK farming, and would also work with the NFU on farm assurance schemes, joint promotions and supply chain initiatives. {{NEWS }}
